Only approved MOT garages have the authority to perform MOT testing. Our own workshop, located in Winchester, has approval from the DVSA to undertake MOTs for motorists in the surrounding Hampshire area. This includes Class IV MOTs, the most common category for passenger cars, light commercial models, taxis, ambulances and some public service vehicles.
MOT testing is an annual inspection that checks for safety, road-worthiness and emission standards on your car or LCV. If you own a vehicle that is older than three years in age, you have a mandatory obligation to book in for a test at any one of the many approved MOT garages in Winchester.
We strongly recommend that you leave MOTs in our capable hands. Having started out in business as far back as 1964, we’ve tested thousands of cars in our lifetime and have a strong reputation for fairness, impartiality and aftercare.

Yes. You must present all classes of vehicle for MOTs in their relevant categories after three years of road use to make sure they fulfil safety, roadworthiness and emission standards set out in the DVSA guidelines. Always use authorised MOT garages to perform an inspection on your behalf. Only an approved facility can issue the required certification.
Some garages in Winchester send their MOT testing work to other workshops and charge you for doing so, but they offer a pre-inspection to increase the chances of a pass. We can pre-inspect your car for a small additional cost.
You will need to book in for a test every 12 months based on the expiry date on your current certificate. MOT garages can test your vehicle up to 28 days ahead of the expiry date, so booking in early can give you a full 13 months of certification. Remember that if you book in for MOTs late and don’t have a certificate, you won’t be able to renew your tax.
Be aware that MOT testing, as a mandatory requirement, makes you liable to a fine if the police catch you driving without a valid certificate. Motorists in Winchester should also remember that non-certification could also invalidate their insurance.
Typically, MOT testing takes 45 minutes to complete but some MOT garages that specialise in lesser-used categories may need a little longer. At Harestock Garage, we understand that you might not have the time to spare and wait with us while we perform MOTs. Customers can leave their vehicles with us and collect them later in the day should they wish to.
Those who prefer to watch us undertake the test can do so in comfortable facilities that afford a full view of our Winchester workshop.
